Luciana Ame’s art is characterized by the simple clean line and the meeting between black and white. The viewer is reminded of our history through the expressions on the faces she paints. Ame uses both permanent studios and temporary premises in dilapidated historic buildings that testify to the past, such as the old stables in the eastern parts of Stockholm.
The contrast is clear against the modern bright studio apartment in central Stockholm on Östermalm. The reason for the studio choices she makes is related to the large formats she works in.
In Italy, specifically Vernazza, 5 Terre, where she has her studio, Ame works a lot outdoors. She is inspired by the architecture and traces of antiquity in the Italian landscape.
